Quality staff for a thriving island

Why work for the Ascension Island Government?

Coming to Ascension Island to work for the Government offers a unique opportunity to make a positive and practical difference to life on a remote British Overseas Territory.
The Ascension Island Government (AIG) provides a diverse range of services to the local community, from road building to teaching to marine conservation.

Working for AIG, you will have the chance to develop your skills and your career in a unique location and within a supportive and friendly work environment. AIG is at the heart of a safe, inclusive community that embraces difference and personal equality. We work hard to ensure individuals are not disadvantaged because of protected characteristics throughout any of our recruitment and management practices.

As a place to live and work, Ascension offers a positive work-life balance with all the attractions of island life right on your doorstep – an excellent climate, fishing, diving, snorkelling and walking, to name a few.

During our application process for work you will be asked if you have any criminal convictions.  This should exclude any spent convictions under Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1972, unless  the job involves working with vulnerable adults or children. In this case, cautions, bind-overs, pending prosecutions, spent convictions must be declared.   If a post involves working with children or vulnerable adults, the Job Description will clearly outline a requirement for a Criminal Record Check.
