Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we need this service?

This air service is to enable employers on Ascension Island to fulfil their contractual obligations to provide access for St Helenian employees to and from St Helena.  The RMS St Helena has served this route for almost a quarter of a century, however is due to be decommissioned in early 2018.  The air service will ensure the continuation of transport links between the two sister islands.

As direct flights between Ascension Island and the UK are currently suspended, the air service will become the primary travel route for those travelling to or from the UK or further afield, via international connections in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

When will the service start?

The inaugural flight for Airlink’s scheduled air service from St Helena to Ascension will take place on Saturday 18 November 2017.

The aircraft will stay overnight on Ascension and will return to St Helena on Sunday 19 November 2017.

Thereafter the service will operate on a monthly basis on the second weekend of the month.  Please see the flight schedule for further information about dates.

How frequent are flights between Ascension and St Helena?

Passengers are permitted to check in a maximum of 20kgs of hold baggage.

Passengers will also be permitted to take 1 piece of cabin baggage which should weigh no more than 8kgs.

Baggage allowances must be strictly adhered to.  Excess baggage charges may apply if these limits are exceeded, however there is no guarantee that any excess baggage will be carried on the same flight, and may follow on a later flight, at the passenger’s expense.

Can I transfer my RMS St Helena booking to a flight?

Passengers that hold a booking for travel to/from St Helena on the RMS St Helena may transfer their ticket to the St Helena Air Service, without penalty or transfer fees until 23 October 2017.  There may be a difference in fares payable on transferring bookings.  Terms and conditions apply.
