Two Boats School provides education for all the children on Ascension Island from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 11. The school is housed in a purpose built campus in the village of Two Boats which is at the foot of Green Mountain. Children are taught in combined classes: Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception), Lower School (Years 1 & 2), Middle One (Years 3 & 4), Middle Two (Years 5 & 6) and four groups covering Years 7 to 11. The school broadly follows the National Curriculum for England and students sit end of Key Stage assessments in Years 2, 6 and 9, and undertake IGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11. Students return to the UK or St Helena for post 16 education or begin training programmes on the island with one of the employing organisations.
History of Two Boats School
There has been a school on Ascension Island almost as long as people have been working on the island. The current school, opened in 1966, was originally built by the BBC for the children of their staff manning the transmission station on the Island. We’re proud that Babcock employees, who now run the BBC’s facilities on their behalf, continue to be a significant percentage of our parents.
