Works and Services Department
AIG Works & Services Department exists solely to
support the AIG mission and deliver its commitment on Infrastructure,
Environmental Health and Fire & Sea Rescue to the people
of Ascension Island.
AIG Works & Services Department also covers Environmental
Health and the Fire & Sea Rescue Service. It employs
60 tradesmen and women who use a wide range of specialist
plant and equipment to carry out its essential core functions
to support the community.
The Works & Services Department is responsible for
the maintenance and operation of existing AIG buildings
(hospital, domestic, school, office and commercial/industrial)
and infrastructure. The infrastructure within its area
of responsibility comprises: pier, roads & paths (together
with Conservation), drains, sewage works, civilian rubbish
collection & tip, public areas, chapel of rest, cemetery
and the water supply on Green Mountain. Various other infrastructure
elements are the responsibility of others outside AIG.
Works & Services support
other users on the Island with their expertise (including
a qualified, to the latest European standards, asbestos
stripping team) on a need basis when resources allow.
Works & Services Department
is responsible for planning and constructing all new
buildings and infrastructure required by AIG and any
users who need and want to use those services.
Works & Services Department covers the Environmental
Health work such as pest control & water testing.
The Fire and Sea Rescue Service provides cover for civilian
land based emergencies and support to others as requested.
It has the sole inshore Lifeboat capability on the Island.
The Works & Services
Department works closely with other AIG departments to
provide the most cost effective infrastructure support
service for the taxpayer and the Ascension Island Government.
