Georgetown
hospital has 9 beds and provides a primary and secondary
health care comparative to any UK practice.
Georgetown Hospital
The hospital is well equipped with a radiological unit,
a gastroscope as well as a flexible sigmoidoscope, an ultrasound
and a vascular Doppler. The theatre equipment is as such
that we could cope with most of the surgical emergency
procedures for adults as well as children.
A defibrillator with external pacing modality is available.
The hospital is supported by a well-equipped laboratory
run by the US Base.
The laboratory provides biochemistry and haematological
tests as well as microscopy and cultures of various specimens.
A blood donor database is kept up-to-date by the same laboratory.
More sophisticated tests are sent to the USA.

patients.
In case of a serious emergency, a Medical Evacuation airplane
(Medevac) is arranged.
The Royal Air Force is often used as they provide an excellent
service but any International agencies (e.g. SOS international)
can be contacted if necessary.
Georgetown hospital deals with Sea Rescue regularly. Seamen
are brought ashore and managed thereafter. They are transferred
by plane to UK or the USA once stable and fit to fly.
It is essential that any person who intends to travel
to Ascension is covered by medical insurance of good reputation.
