The Administrator of Ascension Island
is Mr Michael Hill, a career member of HM Diplomatic Service.
Mr Hill took up his appointment on Ascension in September
2005 on direct transfer from his previous post as British
High Commissioner in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
Mr Hill’s previous overseas postings have also included
New York, Vientiane, Kaduna, Sana’a, Ulaanbaatar, Port
of Spain, Gibraltar and Nairobi.
Mr and Mrs Hill have four children, Alastair,
Victoria, Richard and Alexander.

The Administrator is appointed by the Foreign and Commonwealth
Office and is the representative of the British Government
and the Governor of St Helena on Ascension Island.
The Administrator over-sees the day to day running of the Ascension Island Government.
The Administrator also has the following duties:
Chief Coroner,
Registrar of Births,
Deaths and Marriages,
Immigration Officer,
Receiver of Wrecks
Harbour master.
The Administrator chairs the Island Council on behalf of the Governor and has
direct administrative responsibility for the School, Medical
Services, Police, Post Office and the Government Accounts.
